Hi Tom and Amie! I'm thoroughly enjoying your journal - but a bit behind on your posts. I'm curious for more details on that recirculating shower (as well as the composting toilet)! You say in the post that you can top off the recirc tank - do you also need to flush it out occasionally? How big is the tank? And - if you're in "recirc" mode - does that limit the length of the shower (ie...can the filtration system keep up with the drain?). Lastly - can you make alignment changes from inside the van, or does Tom need to crawl underneath to change the valve settings? Bear in mind that my RVing experience was four decades ago - when my family owned a twenty-two foot Class C (1977 Coachmen Leprechaun)! I have lots of fond memories from our various cross-country journeys, and am excited and happy for you both!
Hi there! Great questions. Our recirculating shower has a 10 gallon sump and and 8 gallon marine tank with another 3-4 gallons in the filters. The recirculating filtration system has six filters a 250 mesh screen before the hepvo trap, then after the dump tank the pump pulls through a 100 mesh spin down filter. After the pump we have a uv filter a large carbon filter, a second uv filter and finally a 20 mesh second spin down filter. The only shower length limit is how recently we l have reheated the marine tank but that doesn’t seem to be an issue as our engine coolant circulates around the tank and super heats that water. We don’t need to top up, but we empty the tanks every couple of weeks and refill with new water. All of the plumbing and valves are inside the van (in the “garage” under our bed. Composting toilet is a Nature’s Head brand, we made minor modifications. We are enjoying our adventure and so glad you are “traveling”with us - it’s a far cry from a 77 coachmen but it is perfect for us. Best A
Hi Ben, we have a dual alternator inverter set up that charges our house batteries (500ah) when we drive so we can run our cooktop off of our batteries when we are Boondocking or alternatively if we have shore power we can run it off of shore power if we are plugged in.

Fascinating. I'm a bit envious! Do you power the electric cook top from batteries!? Or only when on "shore power"?
