Hello Amie, thought about what you wrote as we have a little car rental with NJ plates here in NH. I too loved your writings and vicariously studied your photos. RVtravel.com has a photo contest you should enter! My wife and I finished the initial DIY build of our Sprinter. Still have a ways to go to complete, but we could give it a go if needed. Congrats on your journey!
Hi Jeff, thank you, thank you for “riding along!” I am realizing that my readers have been a part of our journey too. It has been heartening to know, when nomadic life seemed anonymous and transient that there were friends out there that cared about our adventures and cheerleaders for us through challenges and successes. Thanks for the tip about the contest. I actually submitted some to a National Forests photo contest earlier this year - didn’t get picked! But I do LOVE photography and am always up to a challenge. So nice to know that people think my photography is worthy of a contest! Excited you you and your van journey ahead-hope you will keep us posted!
Welcome back to ‘home base’! We listened to Stephen Ambrose’s book on Lewis and Clark during our 2 week PNW trip. The exploration company said they knew they had returned to ‘civilization’ when they saw cows grazing along the Missouri River in what is now Iowa.
Thank you! It did feel a little like a return to “civilization’ as we moved away from the Badlands and into the farmlands. Lots of cows! When we were in PNW we listened to the audiobook “Astoria” by Peter Stark. Gripping history about the race for the fur trade on the coast and the challenges of both the oversea and overland parties commissioned by John Astor just a few short years after L&C. If you want more color about that area I highly recommend it!
Enjoyed every description of every national park you visited. And your pictures were great. I hope you continue to journal and send us newsy reports about how you are doing.. I wouldn't want reading a good report every month to be over Thank you. Claudia and John Scott
Thank you so much, John. I am moved by comments like this and knowing that my writing and photography has resonated with people! I remember meeting you both (was it in Ronald Casper Wilderness, Ca.?) I have really enjoyed the creative process writing and publishing this journal- and I am inspired to keep going. There is lots to unpack about the transition from van life back to “house” life and how we have been changed by the experience. Also, dare I say it, I think the siren song of the road will be calling us back in the not so distant future! Thank you again for reading and for looking forward to my posts.
